Expertly taught the art of industrial spray painting by his father in law, John Busija, Tomo Steler established ‘A Feature Coating,’ or AFC as it’s known in the industry in 1982 after realising that he could apply industrial finishing to the architectural market.

Tomo’s ‘Imperite finish’ or ‘Imperite kitchen’ soared in popularity within the architectural and building industries, Imperite being a Jotun product that Tomo was using at the time. AFC successfully brought these finishes to a wide range of markets, before investing in automation which revolutionised his business, bringing mass volume to the architectural finishing market.

Sasha, the son of Tomo, purchased the company to further specialise and utilise the automated equipment and now provides a coating application mecca for building product manufacturers the likes of James Hardie, Alpine MDF, Laminex, and Timberlink.

The Enekor team prides themselves on safety and quality workmanship, and they are dedicated to always exceeding expectations. Having successfully collaborated with clients on many innovative projects, we aim to build long and mutually beneficial relationships between staff, management, and clients alike.

The Birth of Enekor – Tomo Steler established one of the first companies in Victoria to offer decorative finishing by traditional methods to a wide range of industries.

Improved Efficiency – Installation of a Double Cross Belt Viet automatic sanding machine allows for reduced production times without any compromise on our recognised quality.

Relocation – A new premises in Hallam provides more space and more spray booths allowing for a higher output to keep up with demand.

Expansion – The premises next door was acquired to house the most sophisticated automated line setup in the Southern Hemisphere.

Automation – The opening of our automated roller and spray finishing lines. Since its commission, our facility has enabled many major companies to apply possibilities and solutions that were not previously available to new and existing products.

With increasing emphasis on technology and automation, AFC acquired automated edge sanding capabilities. Calibration and lacquer sanding of edges became faster and more precise.

Investment in Innovative Machinery to Expand Capabilities – Installation of a Nerli cross belt sanding machine and an Emme Elle polishing machine gives our clients the ultimate in full gloss finishing.

Sasha moved away from the company to explore other opportunities. The result of this was that Sasha expanded his knowledge in coating by working on major projects, including the BHP Hay Point Expansion Project, CBH Grain Terminal refurbishment, HMAS Collins FCD, various corrosion control surveys for BHP.  He also become a certified coating, fire proofing and insulation inspector.

Exciting Changes Within the Business – Removal of all hand operations and equipment. Separation of two inline spray machines. Purchase of a laser grooved roller coater, and an inline sander for spray line 1. Purchase of inline brushing machine for spray line 2. All of this allows for greater capacity, and efficiency for our clients.

Installation of De-Palletising Robot – The pre-finished arm of business is launched!

Installed in 2023, ‘Timbot’ was purchased to improve safety and boost production capabilities within our factory. This unique machine has been designed to pick up grooved panels and has the ability to pick up pieces that weigh up to 180kg. This minimises the risk of injury to workers, whilst also boosting productivity and ensuring consistent production.
